This is only a partially correct conclusion. To clarify the matter: The lamb symbolized Christ, not the individual. It was taken from the herd or flock to show that Christ was to be raised up in the condemned line of Adam, Abraham, and David. In this sense, it represented us, just as Jesus was our representative. The sins were placed upon the animal to show what was due to sin, and the man's hands were placed the head of the animal so that he could identify with the sacrifice and recognize that he was due what was to happen to the animal. But the physical perfection of the animal symbolized the moral perfection of Christ. And so the animal represented (symbolized) Christ who was to bear away our sins.
